Frederik Karl Christian XI had been informed that the baltic might be under threat by Russians, he had consistantly heard such reports over regular intervals for the entirety of his rule and had dismissed them as nothing but false warnings and paranoia. However the recent political events and outbreak of war in Europe hit close to home, war could find him, and Danmark and the nordic countries in general were vulnerable. He realized the position of his nation in the baltic was vulnerable and a bridge to the rest of northern Europe. It needed more security.
This he realized, was as much an oppertunity. The emperor of Italia had professed an interest in friendly relations despite the diplomatic dispute and war efforts. This was a rope Frederik could throw to test his interests in positive relations. Since the baltic ocean, and the danish straights were, a military consideration for many, as baltic ocean was home to the main ports of numerous nations. Even the main Russian port was in the baltic and not the white or black sea.
For all of Europe, the integrity of the baltic was for sure a priority. He knew what he had to do. He set about arranging a video call arranged for the Italian emperor. He was too busy as this time to arrange another meeting, and the italian emperor was likely still involved in war so a diplomatic meeting in person likely wasn't practical.
Some time later, presumably with the co-operation of the Italian government the call had been arranged.
"Greetings emperor, Giovanni Facilli. It is regrettable that this can not at this time be done by a meeting, in the light of recent events. However, never the less, I would like to arrange a Joint Baltic Defense Pact. The specifics can be arranged over time, but in short, I would like it to be a joint investment shared between us in the defense of the baltic sea, a gateway for many nations to Europe."
