Stationed: The Atlantic Ocean Date of Formation:1943 History/Information:The Third Fleet was originally formed in 1943. It attacked Japanese naval bases in the Pacific theater, including Kure. It also attacked Tokyo. The USS Missouri was its flagship during World War II, and the documents of Japan’s surrender were signed aboard the ship. Up until now, the fleet has been training Navy and Marine personnel for expeditionary warfare. With the outbreak of World War III, the fleet was transferred to the Atlantic.
