Personality:
J.T. Marshall is the strong confident type who is not afraid to lead even under the worst conditions. He is a very fair and loving commander of his Marines, and treats them all as if they were a son. J.T. is also a humorous person, willing to both give and take jokes when the time is right. He is very intelligent and often designs successful battle tactics that are employed into the field.
He's easy to get along with and his balanced with logic, common sense, anger, and determination. When handed a task he makes it a personal goal to accomplish it and never back down. He refuses to accept defeat in any manner, and takes responsibility for his own actions. Sometimes he may get red faced in a situation, but never takes it out on those who do not deserve it.
Character History:
J.T. Marshall was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, where he lived a modest lifestyle with his family. He attended the local schools throughout his public education, where he also played on most of the sports teams, excelling in baseball more than others.
He graduated with honors from high school and was accepted to a military academy in Maryland. There he learned the roles and responsibilities of leadership, commitment, courage, and honor. He was often ahead of his class in all subjects, and his mathematical way of thinking made him an expert tactician.
After four completed years of the military academy, a young 23 year old J.T. enlisted into the United States Marine Corps' Officer Candidate School with a degree in Military History. For the next ten weeks, J.T. trained as a proficient and competent leader. He was often given tedious tasks, and most of the time would complete them above expectation, along with the admiration of his instructors and peers.
J.T. completed his OCS training in 2007 and was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. He was quickly assigned to his first unit, the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, also known as the "Magnificent Bastards." His battalion deployed to Iraq in early 2008. J.T. was given command of a rifle platoon within one of the battalion's companies.
J.T. and his platoon saw action constantly. Between IED explosions, RPG fire, and sporadic attacks by Iraqi insurgents they saw more than their fair share of combat action. It was during this time that J.T. would save two of his wounded men in the middle of a firefight, while even being hit himself. For his actions he was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and promoted to First Lieutenant.
J.T. and his men would rotate out to the U.S. in 2009, where he spent most of his time training with his platoon, and prepared for another deployment, this time to Afghanistan. Before deploying, J.T.'s company commander retired, and the billet for a new C.O. was open. Regimental staff approached J.T. and offered him the position, to which he gladly accepted, and was promptly promoted to Captain.
Now in charge if Echo Company, 2/4 Marines, J.T. and his men deployed to Afghanistan in mid 2009. They were sent to the Helmand Province with the orders of searching for and capturing or killing Taliban and Al-Queda militants. It was a very tested time for J.T. who would find himself in the heat of the battle with his men, once again dodging IEDs, snipers, and ambush attacks by the insurgents.
J.T.'s reputation for being in the "shit" along with his company grew, and his entire company respected him for his bravery, rather than sitting at a command post and calling shots over a phone. His actions were also noticed by Regimental staff once again, and they promoted him to Major.
Being a Major, he lost command of his company, and was put on battalion staff. This angered J.T. and even the majority of his men who had served under him. But you don't say no to a promotion. However, in February of 2010, J.T.'s former company, along with the rest of the 2/4 Marines were preparing for the attack on the Afghan city of Marjeh, a suspected heavy insurgent stronghold.
Without notifying the brass, or anyone for that matter, J.T. picked up his M16A2 and followed his old company into the town where he spent the opening hours of the attack assisting in room clearings, roadblock positioning, and IED spotting. When battalion staff learned of this, he was recalled back to headquarters where he received an earful and was no longer permitted to leave battalion headquarters.
For the next four years, J.T. would spend his time splitting between rotations stateside and Afghanistan with the 9th Marine Regiment staff. It was a boring time for him and he absolutely hated it, he wanted combat, but combat apparently didn't want him. This would soon all change.
In 2016, the battalion commander was killed when an IED exploded under his vehicle during a convoy to a headquarters setup. Sadly enough, the battalion was being withdrawn back to the states the very next day. Upon their return, it was discussed as to whom would be a fitting replacement, and given his past, it was no surprise that J.T.'s name came around.
The now freshly minted Lieutenant Colonel J.T. Marshall had returned to where he belonged. In the shit, and running the entire battalion. He now had control of D, E, and F companies, along with HHC and Weapons Company. A 1,200 strong force of Marines ready to kill. However, the 2/4 Marines had been permanently withdrawn from operations in the Middle East, and were sent to the Pacific for training.
For the next several years, J.T. would continue training his Marines to be prepared, should they have to go out again...
