Walter stood next to a large oak tree in the middle of a large area of woods near the capital of Poland, now occupied by the UPM. Surrounding him and on either side of a small road that ran through the woods were fifteen other soldiers from the resistance, each one of them armed for battle. They all had a mission to do, one that was initiated by Walter himself.

Intel gathered by some Polish spies found that a UPM general, a man by the name of Karp Konstantin was going to be passing through these woods on his way into Warsaw. Because of the push against Germany, much of Konstantin’s unit was taken for this war, and he was left quite undefended, thinking that Poland was tamed. Walter and his men were here now to exploit this weakness, and to show him that Poland would never stop fighting until ever last one of them was dead.

Walter motioned for all the soldiers to head to their ambush locations, each one of them hidden not only by the brush, but by the thick of night. Each soldier wore night vision goggles, allowing them to see in the darkness. Walter himself crouched down behind a patch of trees and surrounded by bushes of varying sizes. He checked to see if his G11 was loaded and outfitted with a silencer, like all the weapons of the soldiers around him. After each soldier replied that he was in position, Walter sat down and waited.

Within half an hour, the silent drone of engines could be heard and the distant light of headlamps shone. As the convoy approached, Walter counted its number. At the head was a small armored car, to protect the head of the column. Followed by this was a jeep, housing the general himself. After this came three trucks, two loaded down with troops, eight soldiers each, and the last one with supplies and ammunition. The column was finally followed by another armored car.

As the armored car passed in front of Walter, he signaled for the soldiers to attack. At once, placed C4 exploded in the road, sending debris flying everywhere. Two soldiers on each flank fired Javelin missiles at the armored cars, hoping to eliminate them. The rest of the squad began firing at the two trucks carrying the soldiers, hoping to eliminate most of them before they could react. Walter himself aimed down his G11 and began firing at the jeep, aiming for what he believed was the general.

Chaos erupted around the column. Explosions went off almost instantly, filling the air with the smell of smoke and burning oil. The two armored cars both exploded from the Javelin attacks, sending debris flying through the air. Orders were shouted by the officers and soldiers in the trucks as they attempted to exit the vehicles and attack the Poles, but to no avail as most of them fell dead in the first minute, the rest of them lost in the confusion.

Walter himself fired at the jeep, but the general reacted quickly and ducked down. Instead of hitting the general, Walter’s barrage hit the driver, killing him instantly. The general exited the vehicle and sprinted into the woods. Walter immediately stood up, quickly radioed for his second in command, (codename: Soaring Hawk), to take command of the squad and finish the battle, and then plunged into the woods after the general.

Walter ran as fast as he could, eventually catching up to the general. The general turned his head and saw Walter following him at a distance, and he immediately began heading for a patch of particularly thick brush. Knowing that if the general reached this spot he would be able to escape, Walter drew his Beretta and quickly crouched down, aiming and firing off three shots. One of the shots caught the general in the leg, sending him collapsed onto the ground, shouting in pain. Walter holstered his rifle and walked up to the general, carefully scanning him for any weapon, but finding known. With the push of his foot, Walter turned the general over.

Konstantin glared back at him, fear in his eyes, unknowing of what fate this Polish commander held for him. Walter undid his mask and spoke to the UPM commander. “Let this be a reminder to the UPM that Poland is not to be taken for granted. We are not a timid beast, we are warriors. You may have taken our homes and lives from us, but you can never take our spirit away. Poland will rise again, and the UPM will fall.” Walter brought up his Beretta and without a second thought, performed a Coup de Grace and executed the general on the spot.

Walter returned to the ambush location and found his squad waiting in victory. All of the UPM soldiers were dead, none of them escaped. Walter momentarily celebrated with the soldiers then asked what the damage was done. Two of the fifteen soldiers were injured, but these injuries were not fatal and would heal rather quickly. Walter was glad the mission went so successfully and ordered his men to prepare to move out. He grabbed from his bag a metal plate with an emblem printed on it. The emblem was that of the Polish eagle; however the eagle held a rifle in one talon and the Polish flag in another. Underneath the eagle was the phrase, Libery i wolnoœci!, (Liberty and Freedom!) This was the emblem of the Polish resistance, and Walter nailed the plate onto the body of one of the armored cars, where the search party arriving tomorrow would find it in open view. This was to let the UPM know that Poland was still fighting, and that the day of liberation was drawing nearer and nearer, and Walter would see it through.
